I have been involved in the building industry in both the commercial building and residential sectors for over 45 years. The last 30 years I have owned my own building construction businesses.

I am the sole building inspector for Reliable Home Inspections.

During this time, I held roles from estimating and contract administration through to construction management and project management. I became the CEO of a multi million-dollar commercial building contractor. This has exposed me to a myriad of different building construction types and most of the problems that can be found in buildings.

I hold a Building Technicians Certificate. I am a building inspector member of both the Housing Industry Association and the Association of Building Consultants. For a period of time I was a member of the executive committee of the Association of Building Consultants.

When not inspecting houses, I am an elected member (or Councillor) at the City of Unley. I have recently retired as Priest Warden at my Church. These roles are very much like that of a building inspector, mentoring people through the maze that is local government and the church.

I was born in Nailsworth, grew up in Walkerville and now living in Unley. This has given me a strong empathy with the inner suburbs and character housing.

As a younger and fitter man I umpired Aussie Rules football and coached umpires for 11 years in the local high schools football competition.

I followed North Adelaide Football Club as a youngster (and still do). These days I follow both the Adelaide and Port Adelaide AFL clubs. I also keep a close on eye on Sturt and the Goody Saints. During the summer months I take every opportunity to take in the many offerings that cricket now provides. This includes the T20 and 50 over game to the challenge and endurance of the ultimate “test” cricket.

As a proud father and grandfather, I know the value of not just a good house but a good home. My reports will reflect this.

As a builder, I built a reputation for relating to my clients’ needs.

This is a very important aspect of the skill set of a building inspector. I see the role of a building inspector as being a mentor to my clients as opposed to someone who simply provides a check-list of what’s right and wrong.

I have always believed that it is better to educate people. I strive to enable them to make qualified decisions rather than to tell them what to do. I appreciate that what you need is advice on how to manage faults that are found in the house.
