Not only do I wear the hat of an independent building inspector, in another life I am an elected member of the City of Unley. I find that role is not too different to being an independent building inspector. Both roles involve mentoring people and looking after their interests, albeit in a different arena.

Concrete Cancer in Goodwood Underpass

Concrete Cancer in Goodwood Underpass

Occasionally the roles are duplicated. Such is the case in the last month as the City of Unley became aware of some concrete cancer on the footway attached to the rail bridge over Goodwood Road (other wise known as the Goodwood Underpass). As an independent building inspector I found that I was instrumental in encouraging a change in operation to repair the concrete cancer that exists in the footway. I found too that the media in identifying my qualifications sought my input in what clearly is a safety concern of public importance. An article on my elected member blog site caught the attention of the media and all of a sudden I am the “guru”. With 891, and both channel 7 & 9 news, showing interest in my knowledge I am happy to report that all is well that ends well. Glad to have been in a position to help. Work proceeds as noted on my last elected member blog post. With this experience I will look to blog on concrete cancer in the near future.
